Songwriter Karl Straub teaches all the tricks for making your songs better. Learn techniques for making your songs catchier and more memorable, including chord progressions, fitting chords and melody together, editing lyrics to match them with stronger melodies, and much more. Learn how to use the same compositional methods that worked for Mozart, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Duke Ellington, etc. These secrets of the craft can work in any musical style or genre.

Karl has taught songwriting to students at various levels of experience, from beginner to professional. Students will be placed in classes appropriate for their needs. Please contact Scott Kinney for information.

Instructor Karl Straub has a music education degree and 25 years of experience writing and performing original music in many styles. His songs have been recorded by artists in various genres, inc. alt-country (Last Train Home and Eugene Chadbourne), alternative rock (Virginia Coalition), jazz vocal (Lisa Moscatiello), roots rock (the Grandsons and Little Pink), and rock and roll (Karl's bands the Graverobbers and the Karl Straub Combo). Straub is currently co-writing an album project with Eric Brace of Last Train Home.
